A Bedfordshire football club has netted a £750 funding boost from a leading housebuilder.
ASR FC, based in Luton, was selected from hundreds of nominations for the Persimmon Homes Midlands Healthy Communities campaign.
The scheme will see Persimmon give away more than £600,000 to sporting causes across the UK over the next 10 months, with an overall top national prize of £200,000 in addition to numerous regional donations.
ASR FC is a sports project that seeks to engage young people to give them positive experiences, with the aim of reducing youth offending and anti-social behaviour and developing a culture of respect and tolerance.
Rana Miah, Portfolio Holder of ASR, said: “We are thrilled to receive this support from Persimmon Homes.
“Our aim for this year is to host various tournaments which will bring together young people from across communities to engage in something they love, whilst creating community cohesion.
“Our youth management team is aged 13-19, so the project is very much delivered by the youngster themselves, and we provide training and support to enable them to take on these leadership roles.
“The funding from Persimmon Homes will be put towards a number of projects, getting young people involved.”
Every month this year, Persimmon Homes Midlands will hand out £750 to either a sports club or individual aged 21 years and under in the area, to be spent on kit, equipment, coaching or facilities.
Then in January 2018, a short list of 30 will then be created for a national final to be decided on a public vote. One individual or group will scoop the £200,000 top prize to create a lasting legacy, with two runners-up winning £50,000 each.
The new fund is in addition to the £720,000 the company already donates through its hugely successful Community Champions scheme each year.
