A Hitchin pub threw its doors open on Monday 7 May to showcase the venue’s extended drinks and new carvery offering in a family friendly pub atmosphere that caters for all.

The popular Greene King pub, the Highwayman in Hitchin has received a six-figure refurbishment, creating up to nine new jobs in the process.

The new, mouth-watering Carvery is served fresh every day and includes a choice of three succulent hand-carved roast meats that have been slow cooked for up to 14 hours, or a Camembert and beetroot open pie. Guests can fill their plate with a choice of trimmings including eight seasonal veg and potato accompaniments from just £4.99 during the week and £5.49 at weekends. Alongside the carvery is a full menu, which is filled with pub classics from £5.49, such as hand-battered cod and chips, British beef and ale pie, and 28-day aged steaks served fresh from the grill.

The drinks range has been selected by experts to ensure the bar is well stocked with all the favourite tipples – from a wide range of wines, beers, national and local cask ales, craft beers, cocktails and spirits, together with a great choice of soft drinks. Additional cask ales are now available on the bar, as well as great existing drinks deals such as prosecco for £9.99 from Friday-Sunday*.

Alongside the improved food and drink offering, the Highwayman has also been revamped throughout. The new-look pub will maintain its traditional features, including its children play area, and comfortable, homely atmosphere.

David Walsh, co-general manager at the Highwayman, said: “The Highwayman has always been a popular destination for people of Hitchin, so we’re pleased to be able to offer an improved food and drink offering to our regulars and new customers alike.”

Co-general manager, Sam Wright added: “The investment has been a real success, with great feedback on the new carvery, and pub atmosphere. We look forward to welcoming loyal and new guests over the coming months.”
